The Today program allows users to build up their timesheet postings on a 'live' basis throughout the day. It is also useful when posting Weekly Timesheets to record instant actions (e.g. phone calls, interruptions) - a posting can be started automatically by clicking on the Stopwatch icon on the System Toolbar.
Please refer to the Grid Views for how to use the Today grid view. In addition to the standard features described in the link, the following options are available:
•Start New - this will start a new posting on the Today grid with the current time in the Start column. The 'Start New' icon will appear in the Finish column to indicate that this is a live posting (i.e. has not yet been stopped). The Client, Job, Sub Code, Work Type and Memo can all be entered whilst the posting is live.
•Stop - this will stop the posting, enter the current time in the Finish column, and calculate the hours spent (in decimals) on the action. At this point the Hours can be amended if required (this is the value that ultimately will be posted - the start and finish times are not retained after posting). Also the Client, Job, Sub Code, Work Type and Memo can all be entered at this stage.
•Save - this will commit the changes made in the grid to the database and is advisable to be done on a regular basis in case of power or machine failures.
•Post - this will transfer the postings into the Weekly Transactions grid where they will be added to any other postings already made for the day.
•Set to Today - if any unwanted postings have been left over from the previous day that do not require transfer, these can be deleted by this option. Note if no prior date transactions exist then clicking this option will have no effect.
The following points should be borne in mind when using the Stopwatch / Today program:
•The Stopwatch / Start New facility will not work if there are already live entries (i.e. entries that have been started but not stopped) or entries relating to past dates.
•It will not be possible to Post if there is a live entry.
